Sichuan province Baima Tunnel Project
The Jiuzhaigou-Mianyang Expressway began construction in 2016 and was opened to traffic in phases. It was not until today that the entire line was officially completed. The construction lasted for nine years. The long duration was not due to the excessive length of the route but rather the extreme difficulty of the project.
Take the Bai Ma Tunnel as an example. As the most challenging part of the Jiuzhaigou-Mianyang Expressway construction, it started construction in 2016 but was not officially completed until December 2024. "The tunnel is located at an altitude of up to 2,300 meters, the highest point along the entire line. Its maximum burial depth is 1,092 meters, and 97% of the tunnel is composed of grade V rock. The entire tunnel is a gas section. The construction process was like traversing a 'minefield'," said Zhang Hongyi, the director of the Jiuzhaigou Representative Office of Sichuan Highways Group Co., Ltd. The extremely high proportion of grade V rock, combined with factors such as fault zones, large burial depth, and high water inflow, made the tunnel excavation face geological disasters such as soft rock large deformation, collapse, and high-pressure water gushing, as if drilling a hole in "tofu".
The tunnel site was illuminated for the project's trial lighting, and data was measured. Then, through professional exclusive technology, the content was corrected and customized to produce a perfect image.
